ART:

• Art of the Zuni. Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, OU. Through Nov. 20.

• Historical exhibit — “Ancestors of Athens County: Treasures from First Families” — explores pioneer-era objects in the Athens County Historical Society and Museum’s collection. Through Aug. 1.

• Bead International and Beyond Basketry. An exhibition of pierced objects and woven vessels that features trends in the media of beads and basketry. Dairy Barn Arts Center. Through Sept. 1.

• “Burmese Days,” a photography exhibit by Ben Lachman, based on a stint in Burma/Myanmar in 2005 for volunteer work. Through Aug. 2 at Donkey Coffee.

• The Athens County Historical Society and Museum is holding a Civil War exhibit called “Heroes and Hell Raisers: Athens County and Ohio during in the Civil War” at the Athens County Military Museum in Nelsonville. The exhibit will remain open through Dec. 20. Call 592-2280 or go to athenshistory.org for more information.

• “Politics and Portraits: The Art of Murray P. Stern.” Through Sept. 28 at the Kennedy Museum of Art, The Ridges, OU, Athens.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Supper: Weekly free supper sponsored by UCM: Center for Spiritual Growth and Social Justice. 5:30 p.m. at UCM, 18 N. College St. Open to everyone, no questions asked. 593-7301.

Free Community Meals: Are being provided this summer, Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Aug. 8, at The Plains United Methodist Church. The food is provided by the staff and volunteers of Good Works Inc. and the church. No eligibility requirements. Volunteers interested in assisting with food preparation can contact Good Works at 594-3339.

Childhood Immunizations: Every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the ground floor of Parks Hall, OU. OU-COM Community Service Programs’ Childhood Immunization Program. Free to all area children from birth through 18. Bring your child’s previous shot records.

Free Clinic: The Ohio University College of Medicine Community Health Program provides a free clinic every week for those 19-64. Please call 740-593-9364 or 1-800-844-2654 for more information.

Produce Donations: Community Food Initiatives wants your help in feeding the hungry in our community. Bring any extra produce from your gardens to the CFI Donation Station at the Athens Farmers Market or drop it off at 143 Morris Ave., Athens. All donations will be given to local agencies that support the abused, homeless and hungry. 593-5971.

Theater: Ohio Valley Summer Theater presents “The Secret Garden.” July 24-27, July 30 – Aug. 2, all at 8 p.m., and July 20, July 27 and Aug. 3, all at 2 p.m. Elizabeth Baker Theater, Kantner Hall, OU. www.ovst.org or 593-9696 for info. Bloodmobile: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for OU employees at Baker Center, OU.

Program on the Environment: Sonia Marcus, OU’s sustainability coordinator, will lead a discussion on the ecological initiatives taken on the OU campus and how these can be implemented in the community and domestic spheres. 7:30 p.m. Athens Public Library.

MUSIC:

• Open Stage with Bruce Dalzell. The Front Room in OU’s Baker Center.

• Woolly Lemons and Dysfunktional Family. 19 South.

• Benefit for Burmese refugees, featuring Kyle May, Jason Robinaugh, Rob Russell, Nathan Zangmeister, Kent Lancas, Grace Deer and Black Spyral Dancer. 10 p.m. Casa Cantina.

• Blueprint for Murder with special guests. The Union.

• Musicians’ potluck featuring Tony Xenos, Troy Gregorino, Megan Cameron, Jake Householder. 9 p.m. Donkey Coffee. Singer-songwriters do a set round-robin style, and then a full set from the four musicians together.

• Gary Wisor does happy hour from 5-9 p.m. Smiling Skull Saloon.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Friday Night Supper for the Hungry: A sit-down nutritional meal for the hungry and homeless is provided by community organizations and churches who volunteer. 5:30 p.m. every Friday. For info call Good Works at 594-3339.

Theater: “Hearts of Gold,” a comedy play by Erin Peters. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Union Hall Theater in Chesterhill. 740-554-6994.

Art: Final Friday on the Square in Nelsonville. Exhibits, music and refreshments at participating venues in and around Public Square in Nelsonville. 6-10 p.m.

Art Opening: Sixty-eight children will display more than 200 works of art they created during a five-week summer arts program. The 9- to 14-year-olds were given the opportunity to work with professional artists in studios located around Nelsonville and the square. 6-10 p.m. at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville, during Final Friday.

Saturday

MUSIC:

• Kent Lankas plays the piano every Saturday night from  6-8 at Cutler’s Restaurant in the Ohio University Inn.

• Belly-dancing and music. Every Saturday. Salaam Café.

• Holy Spicoli (an ’80s band) plays from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Albany VFW. Fish fry from 5-8 p.m.

• CD release show for the Aquabear Legion’s new compilation. Bands will include Machine Go Boom, Casual Future, 1point3, and Weedghost. Casa Cantina.
