Athens leads the nation in new 'Warfare' game pre-orders |

Gamers in the city of Athens are doing their part for charity by leading the nation in the highest number of pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 games on Amazon.com.
Amazon is leading a promotion with the cumbersome title, “Call of Duty-est Town in America.” It will award a $5,000 Amazon.com gift card to a charity serving the town with the highest percentage of pre-orders among its population.
According to an article on www.gamepro.com, “while Amazon is keeping most of its stats private, the company has provided rankings for the top 40 current pre-order kings.”
The current leader as of this past weekend was Athens, Ohio, the article stated.
The winning town will be announced by Amazon shortly after midnight on Nov. 9.
The promotion is obviously intended to generate more pre-orders of the new game on Amazon, especially in those cities and towns that are in the top 40 named communities.
