Alexander Local Schools Supt. Bob Bray confirmed Friday that officials at the high school on Thursday confiscated marijuana and prescription drugs from “six or seven” students, both male and female.
“We found some students that had some marijuana,” Bray reported. “I think there was some prescription medication as well.”
“I think some other students saw something and alerted the principal,” Bray said regarding how the matter came to the school officials’ attention. After one or more students was found to have drugs, he said, school officials “followed the trail” and found others as well.
The Athens County Sheriff’s office was contacted, and an officer came to the school to investigate, Bray said, though he did not know what legal action may result.
Bray said that to the best of his knowledge, all the students alleged to have had drugs are minors.
“I haven’t met with them yet, (but) I don’t think there are any adults involved,” he said.
Bray said the students are to meet with him Monday, and will be suspended from school pending a disciplinary hearing.
