One alleged pipe bomber may take plea bargain today
July 31, 2008
One of the three men arrested last week for allegedly planting pipe bombs at multiple locations in Nelsonville seems likely to take a plea bargain in the case.
Logan W. Clay, 19, of Nelsonville, is scheduled for a plea hearing today in Athens County Common Pleas Court. He faces charges of arson and unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance.
While Athens County Assistant Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said his office does not comment on pending plea bargains, he acknowledged “it’s always a possibility” that a defendant will plead in a case.
Clay’s two 18-year-old colleagues, Ray Plant III and Bryson D. Cuthill, both of Nelsonville, face somewhat more serious charges. Both have been charged with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, as well as arson and manufacturing dangerous ordnance.
The men were arrested last week for allegedly planting pipe bombs in various places, including one they allegedly taped to the window of a camera shop in Nelsonville, blowing out the window and closing the street for hours.
