JFS coupons good at Farmers Market

May 12, 2008

Athens County Job and Family Services is giving coupons for produce at the Athens Farmers Market through a program funded in part by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Ohio Department of Aging and the Area Agencies on Aging.

Each person will receive $50 in coupons good May 1 through Oct. 31 (five coupons for May through July, and five coupons for August through October).

The program will be open to the first 207 people that are eligible. Homebound seniors may select someone to act as their proxy for the coupons.

The senior and their proxy must both sign the application. The proxy is able to spend the coupons for the senior applicant.

To be eligible for the Farmers Market coupons, seniors must be 60 years of age or older with an annual income of $19,240 or less per applicant, or an annual income of $25,900 or less for a household of two.

Eligible seniors can apply only at the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services office in Athens from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Coupons may be used to buy fresh, locally grown produce and herbs in their natural state, only at vendors displaying the orange Ohio Seniors Farmers Market poster at the Athens Farmers Market each Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
