Letter: There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer with Good Works

July 17, 2008

To the Editor:

In response to the July 10 letter to the editor from Jenny Seelig, I want to provide some additional information.

Good Works provides nearly 17,000 meals each year primarily through the donation of food from local individuals and organizations. We provide food every day in our shelter for the rural homeless (The Timothy House) and more meals through the Hannah House and our Friday Night Supper that serves 100-125 people every Friday night.

This summer, in response to deep concern for our friends struggling with having enough food to eat, we launched a new initiative called SUMMER LUNCH.  We now provide a hot and nutritious meal every day to adults and children at The Plains United Methodist Church in The Plains from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. (M-F). We are seeking: 1) volunteers to assist with the meal preparation and cleanup, (2) donated food, and (3) funds to purchase perishable foods.

Please consider volunteering once a week (or more) and together, let’s love our neighbors. For more information, visit our Web page and contact me.

Love is a verb,
