Letter: Thanks to everyone who helped with Kerr Run/Walk fundraiser

July 21, 2008

To the Editor:

Few people had more fun celebrating July 4 than Kenneth “Kenny” Kerr. When Kenny adopted Athens as his new home, he was an 18-year-old freshman at Ohio University, straight from Lancaster High School. After three years in the Army, he married his wife, Nada, brought her to Athens, and began their family adding Kenny III and Calista.

We were thrilled last year to add to the “Booms Day Celebration” the annual Kenneth Kerr Memorial Fun Run/Walk. It is a fundraiser for a community need. We would like you to patronize our sponsors and those runners and walkers who trek the two-mile course from Morris Avenue to the Athens County Fairground (thanks, board!).

Last year the Alan and Kateri McMillan family and the Dale and Kevin Goldsberry family were in full force, and this year the Max Carsey and Pat Smith family, along with the Jim Mason family, brought a herd.

Last year the Kenneth Kerr Alcohol Education Endowment Fund benefited. This year, the proceeds went to Bob Garbo’s gang at the Athens County Food Bank.

Thank you one and all for enjoying the fun-filled family activities during the weekend.
